What’s Your “Why”?
by Cat Minor
Several weeks ago a good friend of mine asked me, “Why do you do what you do for a living?” I’ve never been asked that question before and it really made me stop and think. After giving it some thought, my short answer was, to help people. Of course there is more to the answer than that, such as I love the creative opportunities that my position as a marketing consultant allows, strategizing with amazing, like-minded clients all over the U.S., the people I work with, etc. But ultimately, my final answer boiled down to helping people and positively impacting the lives of others.
Whether it’s helping a client strategize on a new product launch or creating a campaign to connect consumers with a client service such as phone, TV, Internet or perhaps helping someone with a broken Wi-Fi connection, the end result is helping people.
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself why? Why do you do what you do? The answer will be different for all of us, as we all have different motivators and purposes. Maybe it’s putting your kids through college or preparing for your retirement. What about your role or your company excites you? I challenge you to write it down, stick it on your desk or computer, and on those hard days, look back at your “why” to remind yourself.
